London Boat Show: Setting Sail in 2015

Fancy some sea breeze for a fresh start to the New Year? The CWM FX London Boat Show is the ideal way to set sail on the adventures of 2015 and the show’s new 4D experience, which immerses visitors in several nautical locations, will blow you away. 4D gadgetry isn’t the only new initiative in this show ‘where adventure starts, pioneers meet and innovation shines’ — there are plenty of other interactive and engaging events taking place and it’s all within easy reach of Strand Palace Hotel.

Show highlights

Watch on as the first ever production model of the Solent Whisper foiling catamaran is created live in The Lab from 9 to 12 January, or test your helmsmanship on the Raymarine Navigation Simulator, which will take you up to Hurricane force 12 seas. Meet Olympic champion Sir Ben Ainslie and his racing team, or try your hand at canoeing and kayaking in the Watersports Pool. The Boat Show also offers free daily workshops on practical topics from diesel engine basics to a VHF Radio Operation refresher.

Of course any exhibition is only as good as its exhibitors, and here you have the chance to browse over 400 of them — a dynamic selection of boat, equipment, electronics, holidays and watersports suppliers in the UK. There’s also the salesman-free Owners Associations Area, where you can talk to people who are passionate about their particular choice of boat, and a chance to inspect the sail and motorboats on the ‘boardwalk’, a space designed to look just like a real marina.

What you need to know

The CWM FX London Boat Show takes place at ExCel in London Docklands and runs from 9 to 18 January, with late opening until 8pm on 15 January. If you fancy cycling, you can use the Superhighway cycle route CS3, which runs close to the show.

But for lovers of water transport and anyone who has a taste for adventure, by far the best way to reach ExCel from Strand Palace Hotel is to take an MBNA Thames Clipper which departs from Embankment pier (every 20 minutes during peak hours) and travel to the O2, from where there is the Emirates Air Line Cable Car which takes you in five minutes across the Thames to the London Boat Show venue.

Tickets for the London Boat Show range in price, from £10 (plus £1.75 booking fee) when booked in advance, up to £25, depending on selected day and time. They can be purchased online.

Looking for hotels near Embankment with easy access to the London Boat Show? The Strand Palace Hotel is a just a short journey away by tube, DLR or, continuing your water adventures from the show, by the regular Thames Clipper service, which stops at Embankment Pier.
