Preview: London Film and Comic Con

See stars from major TV shows and films and indulge your comic-related passions – whether cosplay, Manga or anime – at the London Film and Comic Con at Olympia London. Taking place between 17 and 19 July, this star-studded event is a magnet for sci-fi cinephiles, cult TV connoisseurs and comic book enthusiasts.

Here at Strand Palace Hotel, we know that planning a trip to London is nowhere near as difficult as battling an alien species or taking on a dangerous dragon, but it is still helpful to have some hints and tips if you are planning to visit the city for the London Film and Comic Con. Take a look at some of the key points we’ve put together below.

Seeing stars

Michael J. Fox and the Back to the Future gang will be coming over for the expo. And it looks like the DeLorean is now equipped for transatlantic travel, as the iconic time machine will also be present. There will be the chance to attend a talk or have your photo taken with Fox, who played the lead role of Marty McFly in the much-loved Back to the Future franchise. Certain events with Fox are only available if you have a particular kind of ticket though, so check ahead to ensure access. Other big names set to appear at the Olympia include Neve Campbell of Scream fame and Malcolm McDowell from Star Trek and A Clockwork Orange.

Get in the zone

No matter what your interest is, you will find a zone specifically for your niche at the Film and Comic Con. Head to the Comic Zone to have your own work critiqued by editors, to attend a master class and to speak to professional comic book artists. Dress up for the Cosplay Zone and see some other cracking outfits, or go to the Book Zone to discover new authors and to explore the Young Adult Literature Convention. Anime, gaming and manga zones will also be set up at the event.

How do I get there?

If you’re staying at Strand Palace Hotel, it’ll be easy to reach the Olympia. Simply hop on the District line at Embankment Tube station and alight at West Kensington – it is only about 10 minutes to the expo from there. Other transport options include taking the Piccadilly line from Leicester Square to Barons Court, then making the 10-minute walk to the venue. Both journeys take about 35 minutes.
