Since the curtain went up on Joe Allen in 1977, the restaurant has been known as the West End’s Canteen – in the heart of London’s theatreland, it has welcomed actors and audiences alike for over 40 years. Its red brick walls are hung with stage show posters from over the ages, and guests are greeted by a live pianist tinkling the ivories every night of the week.
The restaurant and bar have been given a complete overhaul by a new team including Polpo co-founder Russell Norman and ex-Ivy executive head chef Gary Lee. Together they have created a central London spot where guests can kick back over a few drinks and great bar snacks, with friends for an indulgent evening.
Inspired by the discreet, neighbourhood drinking dens of downtown New York, this dark and brooding watering hole is the ideal space for drinkers, diners, and pre and post theatregoers.
Joe Allen is located on the ground floor of the hotel, on the corner of Burleigh Street. You can access the restaurant through the hotel lobby near the porter’s desk.
